MSTRMND vs Square Loyalty: the short answer
Square Loyalty is a loyalty feature for businesses that already use Square. Its UK page lists three prices per location by loyalty visits: £25 a month for up to 500 visits, £45 for 501 to 1,500 and £65 for 1,501 or more. MSTRMND is a separate loyalty system that works at any till and charges by plan: £31, £69 or £115 a month billed annually.
If you are already on Square, want the simplest setup and sell through Square only, its built-in loyalty is worth pricing. If you want a wallet card in Apple and Google Wallet, customer segments, WhatsApp notifications or a loyalty system that does not depend on one till, MSTRMND is built for that. We are MSTRMND, so read this with that in mind. Where the other product is the better fit, we say so. New to wallet cards? Start with our guide to digital loyalty cards.
What Square Loyalty offers
On its UK page, Square describes a digital loyalty programme where customers earn points and rewards redeemed in store or online. A loyalty visit counts when a customer enrols, earns a point or redeems a reward. Customers can join at the point of sale, through Square Online, via Square Invoices or with a shareable link. Points can be earned per visit, per amount spent or per item or category, and the page says customers can earn points even when they pay cash.
It lists automatic text notifications when points or rewards are earned, bonus-point promotions, loyalty-attributed sales data, integration with Square’s customer directory and Square Marketing email, and third-party integrations such as Mailchimp. It states no long-term contracts and a 30-day free trial. Apple Wallet is supported. Google Wallet is not mentioned on the page.

How the pricing scales
Square’s price depends on loyalty visits, per location, per calendar month. A quiet shop that records fewer than 500 loyalty visits a month pays £25 for one location. A busy venue that passes 1,500 visits pays £65. If you run five locations, each is priced separately.
MSTRMND’s Grow plan covers 5 locations for £69 a month billed annually, and Business covers 10 for £115. At one location with modest volume, Square’s lowest tier is cheaper than MSTRMND’s Starter at £31. At several locations or higher volume, a flat plan becomes the lower cost. The break-even depends on your visits and sites, so run your own numbers.
