Square Loyalty Integration: What Works Today and What Is Planned

A Square loyalty integration for MSTRMND is planned for Q4 and is not available yet. This page says what works at a Square till today, what the planned link is for and how to set up so that nothing you build now has to be redone.

Planned for Q4, not available yet

Run MSTRMND at a Square till today

  1. Take the payment in Square
  2. Scan the wallet card
  3. Customer sees the update
  4. Plan for the Q4 link

The card stays the same when the link arrives.

Is there a Square loyalty integration?

Not natively, not yet. MSTRMND lists Square on its roadmap for Q4, alongside Clover and Stripe Terminal, and there is no firm date. If a page tells you that a native Square link is live, check the date on it. This one will be updated when the link ships.

That does not mean a Square venue has to wait. Three things work now. Staff can scan the MSTRMND wallet card at any Square till with the Scanner App. The Business plan includes API and webhooks, which let a developer or an automation tool connect Square activity to the card. And the loyalty card does not care which till you use. It lives in the customer’s wallet and works in the shop you run today. New to wallet cards? Start with our guide to digital loyalty cards.

What works at a Square till today

The simplest setup takes about a minute to explain to a new member of staff.

  • Take the payment in Square as you do now.
  • Scan the wallet card with the Scanner App on any phone, which adds the stamp or points.
  • Check the screen. The customer sees the update in their wallet.

No hardware is needed beyond a phone. No customer app is involved. The loyalty system sits beside Square, not inside it, which is why a Square venue can start today on any plan.

Ways to use MSTRMND at a Square till

Only the first two work without a developer. The third needs the Business plan.

Why Square owners ask about this

Square is built around a single account that takes payments, tracks sales and, for many sellers, runs their customer list. Owners reasonably ask whether loyalty should live in the same place. The honest answer is that it depends on what you want from the card.

If you want a loyalty card that customers keep in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, with messages you send to their lock screen, and with reward types such as cashback, referrals and memberships, a dedicated system gives you more room. If you want the lightest possible setup and only sell through Square, using the loyalty feature inside Square may be enough. Neither choice is wrong. Both are worth pricing.

How to plan around the Q4 link

Anything you build now should survive the native link, and three habits make that likely. First, keep your reward rule simple and written down, so it can be recreated in any system. Second, keep your customer list in one place. Third, avoid training customers to expect a manual step that you will later remove.

The wallet card is the stable part. It is the same card whether staff scan it, a developer connects Square through webhooks, or a native link arrives later. Customers do not need to do anything when the plumbing underneath changes.

Three ways a Square seller uses MSTRMND now

The salon with a Square terminal

The stylist rings up the service in Square, then taps the wallet card with the Scanner App. The stamp lands before the client has put their coat back on. Because the card sits in their wallet, the next appointment reminder can arrive on the lock screen.

The café with a mobile reader

A queue moves fast when the order is taken at the table or the pavement. The Scanner App on a phone is just as mobile as the reader, so loyalty goes wherever the sale goes.

The shop that wants a custom rule

If you need something the standard approach does not cover, the Business plan’s API and webhooks let a developer or automation tool turn a Square payment into an “add purchase” event on the card. That route needs setup work, so it suits shops with a clear, specific rule.

What the Square link will not do

A native link records the sale. It does not choose your reward, set your margin or tell you who your regulars are. MSTRMND’s customer segments do that, from the visit history on the card. It also will not remove the need for a clear card design and a short staff briefing.

And because the link is planned, we do not describe how it will behave. The accurate summary is: Square venues can run MSTRMND today, and a closer connection is on the way.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Square loyalty integration available now?

No. A native Square link is on MSTRMND’s roadmap for Q4, with no firm date. Until it ships, Square venues can run the loyalty card with the Scanner App on any phone, or connect Square activity through API and webhooks on the Business plan. Both are live today.

Do I need Square to use MSTRMND?

No. MSTRMND is a wallet card system and works at any till. Square owners ask because they already take payments there, but the card does not depend on it. Customers add the card from a QR code in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and staff scan it with the Scanner App.

Will my customers need to do anything when the link arrives?

No. The wallet card is the same card before and after any connection is added underneath it. The change happens at the till and in the back office, not on the customer’s phone. That is the reason to keep your reward rule simple and written down now.

Which plan should a Square seller start on?

Starter fits one location with a modest customer list: one stamp card and up to 100 clients. Grow suits up to 5 locations and 1,000 clients and adds WhatsApp notifications and customer segments. API and webhooks, and the future Square link, sit on the top plan, so ask on a call what you need.
