Toast Loyalty Integration for Cafés and Restaurants: What It Does and What You Need
A Toast loyalty integration links your Toast till to MSTRMND, so the regulars you serve every day earn stamps or points on a wallet card. It is live on the Business plan. This page covers what it does, what you need and where it stops.
Native link, Business plan
Set up the Toast link in four steps
- Choose the Business plan
- Pick the reward rule
- Agree the Toast link on a call
- Brief your team
The Scanner App covers any gap on day one.
What does the Toast loyalty integration do?
The Toast loyalty integration connects your Toast point-of-sale to MSTRMND, so activity at the till can reach the customer’s loyalty card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. It is included in the Business plan. The MSTRMND team agrees the exact setup with you, because which sales earn what depends on how your menu and your card are built.
Toast is a point-of-sale platform made for restaurants and cafés. It records every order, every table and every tip. MSTRMND records something different: who your regular customers are, how often they come back and what they have earned. Neither system replaces the other. The integration lets the first inform the second.
Without a link, loyalty depends on whoever is on the till remembering to scan the card. On a busy Friday service, a missed scan means a regular who thinks you forgot them. A Toast loyalty integration removes the memory test from the job. New to wallet cards? Start with our guide to digital loyalty cards.
How the Toast connection works today
The Business plan lists Toast POS integration as a feature, alongside API and webhooks. We do not publish a click-by-click Toast setup on this page, because it is agreed venue by venue and any steps we printed would date quickly.
On a call we settle four things, and they are the same four things worth deciding before you speak to anyone:
- Which locations are linked. The Business plan covers up to 10 locations.
- Which sales earn a reward. Every paid order, orders over a set value, or specific items such as hot drinks.
- What a redemption looks like. What the till operator sees and says when a customer uses a reward.
- Who sees the customer list. Business includes unlimited managers, so you decide which team members get access.
The Scanner App stays available as a fallback on every plan. If a till is offline or a customer pays another way, staff scan the card on any phone. The card itself does not change: customers add it from a QR code, with no app and no password.
Three ways to run MSTRMND alongside Toast
Pick by plan, by how much of the till you want connected and by how your team works.
| Way to connect | What happens at the till | Plan needed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toast POS integration | Your Toast till is linked to the loyalty system, set up with the MSTRMND team | Business | Venues that want the till and the card to agree without extra steps |
| Scanner App | Staff scan the wallet card on any phone after the sale | Every plan | Starting small, or when a till is offline |
| API and webhooks | A developer or automation tool sends events to the card | Business | Custom rules the standard link does not cover |
Which Toast sales should earn a reward?
This is the decision that shapes the whole programme, and it is a business decision, not a technical one. MSTRMND offers eight card types, including Stamp, Points and Cashback, so you can match the reward to the way your venue sells.
A café with a high volume of low-value drinks suits a stamp card: one stamp per qualifying drink, a free item at the end. It is easy to explain across a counter in one sentence. A restaurant where the bill varies from a single coffee to a table of six suits points or cashback, because the reward grows with what the guest spends.
Example: if your average café order is £5 and you reward every tenth drink, a regular who visits three times a week reaches the reward in under four weeks. That is a visible, near target. A points card that needs 500 points before anything happens feels like a different promise, even if the maths is similar. Pick the version your customers can say out loud.
Three ways a café or restaurant uses it
The morning queue
Speed matters most at 8.15am. When the loyalty step is attached to the order you are already ringing in, it adds no second scan and no second question. The person behind the counter keeps their rhythm and the regular gets credit without asking for it.
The guest who returns every few weeks
A restaurant guest does not visit three times a week, so a stamp every visit would take a year to fill. A points or cashback card, with a push message when the guest has not been in for a while, fits a monthly rhythm. The wallet card sits on their phone, so the reminder arrives where they will see it.
The multi-site group
If you run more than one café or restaurant, a single customer list across sites shows you something a single till never can: the guest who eats at one site and drinks coffee at another. With up to 10 locations on the Business plan, you can see that guest once, not twice.
What you need before you start
- The Business plan, because Toast integration is not included on Starter or Grow.
- An active Toast account at each location you want to link.
- A decision on the reward rule: what earns it, and what it gives.
- A short staff briefing. Two minutes at the start of a shift is enough, because the card behaves the same way every time.
- Your logo, colours and card wording, so the card looks like your venue and not like a template.
MSTRMND says new accounts go live within 24 hours. Because the Toast link is agreed with you on a call, we do not quote a separate timeline here.
Locations each plan covers
Toast integration sits on the top plan. Here is how many locations each plan runs.

What the Toast link does not do
It does not make a weak reward strong. If the free item is out of reach, customers stop trying, however smoothly the till records their visit. It does not change your Toast subscription, your menu or your reports. It does not apply to Starter and Grow, and a Toast venue on those plans can still run the loyalty card with the Scanner App.
It also does not promise a number. Venues differ in footfall, in how they treat regulars and in what they offer. A link between two systems records what happens at the till. What happens next is down to the reward and the team.
What the Toast loyalty integration costs
The Business plan is £115 a month when billed annually, which is £1,380 a year. With up to 10 locations, that works out at £11.50 per location per month when all ten are in use. Business also includes all 8 card types, unlimited clients and priority support, with a one-hour response, seven days a week.
There is no setup fee. If you only have one location, the figures change, so ask for a walkthrough before comparing prices.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Toast integration work on the Grow plan?
No. Toast POS integration is part of the Business plan. If you are on Grow or Starter, you can still run the loyalty card at a Toast till: staff scan the wallet card with the Scanner App, which is included on every plan. Moving to Business adds the integration, unlimited cards and clients, and API and webhooks.
Do my customers need to download an app?
No. Customers add the loyalty card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet by scanning a QR code. There is no MSTRMND app to install and no password to remember. That matters at a busy counter, where anything that adds a step to joining loses people.
Can I use MSTRMND with Toast without the integration?
Yes. The Scanner App works on any phone and is included on every plan, so your Toast till and the loyalty card can run side by side. The integration removes the separate scan. It is worth it when your volume or your number of locations makes a second step costly.
How long does setup take?
MSTRMND says new accounts go live within 24 hours. The Toast link is agreed with you on a call, because the rules depend on your menu and locations, so we do not publish a separate time for it. Ask on the call and plan the staff briefing around the answer.
Key takeaways
- The Toast loyalty integration is included in the Business plan, not in Starter or Grow.
- The Scanner App works at any Toast till on every plan, so you can start before you upgrade.
- Choose the reward rule first: stamps suit frequent low-value drinks, points or cashback suit variable bills.
- Business covers up to 10 locations, at £11.50 per location per month when all ten are used.
- A link records the sale. The reward and the team decide whether regulars come back.
