MSTRMND vs TapMango: the short answer

TapMango describes a platform for building a branded loyalty programme with its own mobile app, branded key tags, gift cards, memberships, referrals, automated campaigns and online ordering. MSTRMND does fewer things and does them in the wallet: a card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, messages from it and customer segments.

If you want one system that covers loyalty and online ordering with your own branded app, TapMango is built that way. If you want regulars to join with a scan and hold a card with no app, MSTRMND is. We are MSTRMND, so read this with that in mind. Where the other product is the better fit, we say so. New to wallet cards? Start with our guide to digital loyalty cards.

What TapMango offers

On its own site, TapMango lists points earned for check-ins, spending, specific products and customer groups, tiers with higher multipliers, a branded mobile app where customers track points and offers, and branded key tags that double as gift cards. Customers can join by tablet, app, web or text message. It lists referrals, triggered email, text and push campaigns for events such as birthdays or long gaps between visits, instant win and raffles, gift cards, multi-location tools, paid memberships, reviews and surveys, and dashboards.

It also lists online ordering and integrations with point-of-sale systems including Square, Toast, Clover, Vend, Lightspeed and Mindbody. For pricing, its pages describe a flat monthly fee with no contract, but we could not find the amount published. Some of its pages are several years old, so check the current details.

Branded app or wallet card

The two products answer the same question differently. TapMango gives customers an app that is yours: your colour, your name, your offers, and a place to order. The cost is the usual cost of an app: customers have to find it, install it and keep it.

MSTRMND gives customers a card in the wallet they already open to pay. They do not install anything. They cannot order through it, and it does not pretend to be a storefront. For venues where the main goal is getting regulars to collect and return, the lighter model often wins on joining rates. For venues where online ordering is half the business, the app earns its place.

Questions to ask TapMango before you sign

MSTRMND vs TapMango cannot be settled without a number from TapMango, because its pages state a flat monthly fee without the amount. Ask for these.

  • What is the flat monthly fee for my number of locations, and what does it include?
  • Is the branded mobile app, online ordering and text credits in the base fee or extra?
  • Is there any setup, hardware or app store cost?
  • What are the contract terms, given that its pages say no contract?
  • Is my till still on your integration list, given that some pages are several years old?

Once you have a written price, put it beside MSTRMND’s published £31, £69 or £115 a month, billed annually, and compare what each covers.

How to decide in ten minutes

  • Ask whether online ordering matters to you.
  • Ask whether you want your own app or a wallet card.
  • Check the POS integrations against your till.
  • Ask TapMango for a written price and the contract terms.
  • Count the steps a customer takes to join.
