Shopify Loyalty Card: Give Online Customers a Wallet Card They Use in Your Shop

A Shopify loyalty card gives customers who buy online a wallet card they can also use in your shop. Shopify orders reach MSTRMND through webhooks and the API on the Business plan. This page explains the setup, the limits and the cost.

Via API and webhooks, Business plan

Connect Shopify orders to the card

  1. Order paid in Shopify
  2. Relay finds or creates the card
  3. Purchase added to the card
  4. Refund reverses it

The customer never installs an app.

What is a Shopify loyalty card?

It is a MSTRMND wallet card that is fed by your Shopify orders. A customer buys on your store, a short piece of automation creates or finds their card and adds the purchase, and the customer sees their balance in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. If they also visit your shop, the same card works at the counter.

MSTRMND does not install into Shopify as a standalone app. The Business plan includes API and webhooks, and Shopify can notify an address you choose when an order is paid. A developer or an automation tool connects the two. That makes it a good fit for sellers who have a shop and a store, and less of a fit for a purely online brand that wants a one-click install. Why online and in-shop customers need one card

Most sellers who run both channels keep two customer lists: one in Shopify and one in a loyalty system. The regular who buys online and also visits the shop is two people, with two histories. You do not know they are your best customer, because no single record shows it.

A shared card ties them together. Spend online builds the same balance as spend at the counter, so a customer’s total relationship with you is visible and rewardable. It is a simple change and an effective one, because it removes the question every customer asks: “does my online order count?”

Online and in-shop loyalty: two lists or one card

The difference shows up the first time a customer asks whether their online order counts.

How the Shopify connection works

The connection has five parts. Each can be built with a no-code tool or by a developer.

  • An order is paid in Shopify. Shopify sends a webhook to a relay.
  • The relay checks for a card. It looks up the customer by email or phone through the API.
  • If there is no card, it creates one. The API can create a customer and issue a card, then send the card link by message.
  • It adds the purchase. The order total becomes cashback, points or a visit on the card.
  • A refund reverses it. The API’s subtract actions mirror the add actions.

None of this requires the customer to download an app. They add the card from a link or a QR code.

Three ways a Shopify seller uses it

Cashback that works in both places

A cashback card turns every order into a balance the customer can spend. Because the balance sits on the wallet card, they can use it online or in the shop, and the card shows what is left. It suits sellers with products people buy more than once.

A VIP offer for repeat buyers

MSTRMND’s segments show who has bought recently and who has gone quiet. A message to the customers who bought twice in the last two months, with an early look at new stock, costs nothing to send and reaches a lock screen, not a crowded inbox.

Pop-up and market stalls

A Shopify seller who also trades at markets can use the Scanner App at the stall. The customer scans a QR code, gets the card, and the same card then collects online orders later. One list, three places to sell.

What you need before you start

  • The Business plan, which includes API and webhooks.
  • A Shopify store with order webhooks enabled.
  • A developer or automation tool such as Zapier or Make to relay the events.
  • A decision on how to match customers: email is usual online, phone is common in shops.
  • A written reward rule including refunds and cancelled orders.

What the Shopify link will not do

It will not move your whole customer list into MSTRMND by itself, and it will not give you a Shopify-style rewards page on your store. It is a wallet card that Shopify orders feed. If you need an on-site points widget, a dedicated ecommerce loyalty app is the better tool, and our comparison pages cover those honestly.

Start with one product or one order type

A Shopify loyalty card works best when the first rule is narrow. Reward a single kind of order, such as orders over a set value or orders for one product range, and leave everything else alone for the first month.

A narrow rule is easy to explain to customers on the order confirmation page and easy to check against what Shopify recorded. When it behaves, widen it. A Shopify loyalty card that begins with one clear promise earns trust faster than one that tries to reward every order from day one.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Shopify app for MSTRMND?

Not as a standalone install. The connection uses Shopify webhooks and the MSTRMND API, which the Business plan includes. A developer or an automation tool such as Zapier or Make relays each paid order to the customer’s card. If you want a one-click store widget, a dedicated ecommerce loyalty app suits that better.

Can the same card work online and in my shop?

Yes. That is the main reason to connect them. The customer holds one card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Online orders build the balance through the connection, and in the shop staff scan the same card with the Scanner App. You see one customer record with one history.

What happens when a customer returns something?

The API includes subtract actions that mirror the add actions, so a refund event from Shopify can reduce the cashback or points on the card. Decide the rule before you build, including partial refunds, because it is simpler to plan the reversal than to repair it later.

Which plan do I need?

Business, because API and webhooks sit there, and because an online store tends to outgrow the 1,000-client limit on Grow. If you only want to collect in-shop visits and are not connecting Shopify yet, Starter or Grow can run with the Scanner App while you decide.

Key takeaways

  • A Shopify loyalty card ties online orders and in-shop visits to one wallet card.
  • The connection uses Shopify webhooks and the MSTRMND API on the Business plan.
  • A developer or a no-code tool such as Zapier or Make relays each order.
  • Plan refunds and cancellations in the reward rule before you build.
  • For an on-site points widget, a dedicated ecommerce loyalty app is the better tool.
